According to Global News, family members say that the driver rescued after being trapped in his overturned semi-truck has died.
“He’s a great support to his mother, he married Yvonne – the love of his life. He has two beautiful girls. Everybody is in shock,” his aunt Joyce McCardle said.
On Feb. 28th, 45 year old driver Pat Gaudet was hauling wood chips on Highway 3 in the area of Rhododendron Flats in Manning Park, BC Canada when the 140,000 lb truck went down a 100 ft embankment. It’s still unknown how the accident happened, but it seems that the GPS in his cab may have malfunctioned during the accident, contributing to the long delay in finding him.
Gaudet was a truck driver for 25 years, and worked for Sutco for three years. After a long search, his truck was finally spotted on March 1st. Gaudet was miraculously still alive, hanging upside down because his legs were trapped, and the steering wheel lodged into his abdomen. He wasn’t extracted from his truck until late on Thursday, March 2nd. He underwent surgery at the Royal Columbian Hospital, but died around 6 a.m. on Saturday morning.
