Train hits semi crossing tracks in Le Mars, Iowa … AGAIN (updated)

Less than 3 months after another semi trailer was “sliced in half by a train” in Le Mars, IA, it’s happened again.

Wednesday morning, a westbound Shuster tractor-trailer was crossing the railroad tracks at 18th St. SW and Lincoln Ave., when it was struck by a southbound Canadian National train at the back of the trailer. The trailer was ripped open, spilling out its load of frozen desserts.

According to the Le Mars Sentinal, “The driver of the semi was taken to Floyd Valley Healthcare by Le Mars Ambulance. Le Mars Fire-Rescue, Le Mars Police Department and Le Mars Ambulance responded to the accident.”

Back on December 30th, 2016, conditions were similar as a semi was traveling westbound and hit by a southbound train. But that time, it was at a different Le Mars intersection on Hwy 3. And the semi was hauling frozen turkeys. And the train involved was from Union Pacific.
